Dehydration is the loss of fluid in the cells of the body. This can show up as a dryness in the mouth scientifically known as Xerostomia. This feeling is caused by a lack of saliva in the mouth and throat and a drying out of the mucus membranes. Xerostomia is sometimes called pasties or cottonmouth. Remidies for dry mouth range from drinking water to a variety of products designed to relieve this symptom: Biotene, Orajel and other brandname toothpastes and mouthwashes work well.
